PSHE and RSE

The Department for Education (DfE) calls PSHE education ‘an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education’ and that ‘all schools should teach PSHE, drawing on good practice’

Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum aims to develop the qualities and attributes that pupils need to thrive not only as individuals, but also within a family and as members of our society. It also aims to help children and young people develop skills and enables them to deal with the real-life issues they face as they grow up and, in doing so, equips pupils to live a healthy, safe, productive, responsible, and well-balanced life. Our PSHE and RSE education contributes to their personal development, by helping pupils to build knowledge, confidence, resilience, and self-esteem and promotes healthy wellbeing. PSHE, alongside all areas of our curriculum at Dove Bank, promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. At Dove Bank, we teach the pupils using the PSHE Association. The way we deliver our personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is a sequenced, spiral programme that builds on prior learning as pupils progress through school.

We teach RSE using the Christopher Winter project. This project has been quality assured by the PSHE Association.

Within the resources, there is an increased focus on safeguarding/keeping children safe. The resource also encourages children to develop the skills of listening, empathy, talking about feelings and relationships with families and friends.

The resources in this scheme are age and developmentally appropriate.
