Our Curriculum
Intent
At Dove Bank Primary School, our curriculum is driven by the need to prepare our children for lifelong learning. We offer a rich and vibrant curriculum, which builds upon what pupils already know, and is ambitious for all learners. Through our curriculum, we develop the essential knowledge, skills and understanding which are the building blocks for later life. We carefully sequence our curriculum, so that pupils remember more and aspire to be the very best they can be. Pupils at Dove Bank are encouraged to be inquisitive about the world around them; curiosity builds a love of learning and a drive for pupils to discover answers for themselves and become resilient when facing challenge.
Our curriculum encompasses not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but goes beyond the experiences of the classroom to ensure that our children are exposed to the richest and most varied opportunities that we can provide. We carefully balance the requirement for pupils to reach national expectations, with our wider curriculum aims of developing kind and confident pupils who are ready for the next stage in their education.
The aims of our school curriculum are:
- To make connections between what they already know and what they are learning.
- To promote a resilient attitude towards learning, so that all children enjoy coming to school and embrace new challenges and possibilities by pushing their own boundaries.
- To enable children to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills; being aspirational and becoming independent thinkers and questioners; acquiring a solid basis for lifelong learning.
- To encourage children to become kind, respectful, active members of the community to better prepare them for life in Modern Britain.
